Pau Garcia, the founder of Domestic Data Streamers, a design studio in Barcelona, delved into the realm of AI image generators. When a friend approached him with a request to create an image depicting her playing with her deceased father, Garcia used the DALL-E AI image generator. The result was emotionally moving for his friend, sparking discussions within the studio about the broader potential of this technology.

Soon after, a social worker from a nursing home approached the studio with a unique idea: utilize AI image generators to aid elderly patients, specifically those with dementia, in visualizing their early memories.

The provided gif showcases a "synthetic memory" created for a 96-year-old Catalonian woman in the early stages of dementia. Her recollection, translated from Catalan to English, depicted a poignant memory of standing with her mother on an apartment balcony overlooking La Modelo, a notorious prison in the heart of Barcelona. During the Francoist dictatorship, her father was a political prisoner in the prison, visible through a window from the balcony.

It's important to note that current image-generating bots carry biases, particularly toward American English and Western perspectives.
